Who We Are: Nashville Metalcore Since 2005
If you've ever screamed along to "Malevolence" or "Shiver", you already know why A Plea for Purging still matters. But where did that sound come from? Here's a quick guide from us, for new listeners and old ones.
Where are we from?
We are a Christian metalcore band from Nashville, Tennessee. Guitarist Blake Martin and bassist John Wand started the band in 2005 under the name Silas, then renamed it A Plea for Purging.
Who is in the band?
The line-up best known is Andy Atkins on unclean vocals, Blake Martin on lead guitar and clean vocals, John Wand on bass and Aaron Eckermann on drums. Earlier members included singer Justin Lewis and rhythm guitarists Lyle Paschal and Tyler Wilson.
What are the albums?
All four of our studio albums came out on Facedown Records:
- A Critique of Mind and Thought (2007)
- Depravity (2009)
- The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (2010)
- The Life & Death of A Plea for Purging (2011)
Depravity and The Marriage of Heaven and Hell were produced by Joey Sturgis, and The Life & Death of A Plea for Purging reached No. 11 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
Did we really break up?
We did. We announced in 2012 that we would disband and played the Quit Your Band and Get A Job Tour with As Hell Retreats, ending with a final show at home in Nashville. We reunited for one show at Facedown Fest 2017, then came back again for Furnace Fest in 2023.
